2024 Wrap-up and 2025 Outlook:
• Thanks to all that became members and/or donated time and money this year! Our energy is growing in numbers and community outcomes!
• Bloomington Parks System Masterplan (PSMP), approved in 2021 is continuing to move forward. BORCA was invited to be involved with that process at the very beginning and has contributed information and expertise throughout.
• With the PSMP, a new bike skills park was identified, and ground was broken on July 24th at Tretbaugh Park, Bloomington’s first bike and wheel centric park!
• While it was decided that no bikes would be allowed in Moir/Central/Nine Mile, we showed up and did our part to advocate for access.
• BORCA’s MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the MN Valley US Fish and Wildlife Service regarding trail maintence, restoration, and preservation at the River Bottoms in Bloomington on FWS land is in full swing. BORCA members worked extra hard doing cleanup and tree cutting after record Spring and Summer flooding, and throughout the rest of the year.
• Partnership with MORC in Bloomington and the River Bottoms.
• BORCA participated in planning for the Normandale Ave Reconstruction project.
• BORCA hosted Women On Wheels (WOW) rides.
• BORCA has been working with partners in the removal of Buckthorn in the city.
• We collected, fixed, and gave away free bikes to community members.
• BORCA members showed that there is support for off-road cycling amenities in our city.
• We continued meetings with the city staff and Three Rivers Park District about single-track mountain bike trails and connections.
• We are planning on monthly, (if not more frequently) trail maintenance workdays/eves starting this Spring at the River Bottoms. Please email info@borca.org if interested.
• We will continue to build a membership and sponsorship base, along with BORCA’s board. We are looking for a wide range of knowledge and skills. So don’t hesitate to reach out. Contact info above and www.borca.org for membership info.
• We will be holding a membership/board meeting this spring. Watch for details.
• Please let us know if there are activities you would like to get involved with. We want you!
• Let’s continue our momentum in 2025! There are a lot of opportunities to be had!
